Always strike with a ball peen or drilling hammer with a striking face approximately 3/8in larger than the struck face of the chisel. Discard any chisel that is bent, or shows dents, cracks, chips, mushrooming, or excessive wear. Redress chisels to an in included angle of approximately 70 degrees using a file or stone.
