works great for occasional or light weight use, but mine blew apart when I tried using it more than that. and it's too much trouble to return, so roll the dice if you feel lucky.

Looked like a decent tool, had a longer stroke than my older one. Was a repackaged one, but apparently the person inspecting it didn’t notice how bent the shaft was.Too bad!

There was rust in the cavity where the bits go straight out of the package. The switch to change the direction gets stuck very easily.Find a better brand to buy.

While this does work as advertised, just like the old push pull screwdrivers used by Ma Bell phone installers for years, it does have a few minor problems. The biggest problem is that the cap at the shaft end makes contact with the shaft when it is rotating and this causes the cap to eventually back off, unthreading itself. Once it comes all the way off, it is possible for the leaf spring and ball that make up the stop to come loose. The screw at the base of the ratcheting section cylinder also comes loose on its own. I had mine fall out and it was lost in the shop for 2 weeks, causing me to have to tape the thing together. If you buy this, you're going to need to apply threadlocker to the threads of that screw and the screw on cap at the shaft. I recommend the lowest level hold threadlocker. Anything more will cause it to set up so hard you won't ever be able to get into it again.

Bought it as a gag gift for my foreman, as we both watched a funny video with it being the main tool being used. I ended up using it more than he has! It’s great. My only problem is that at first it’s a little rough on the retrieve, but it gets easier as you use it more.
William J Anken
I use this for installing screws where there is a danger of stripping them out.

My father had a Stanley Yankee Screwdriver he carried around all weekend. The sound it made was the sound of my childhood. I let it go in the estate sale when my mother passed and have regretted it, especially since Stanley no longer makes them. So I looked for one and discovered the original item can be obtained but is pretty expensive. Then I found this tool and took a shot. It seems very similar to the Stanley. There's a small learning curve, but it's sturdy and satisfying to operate. And the first time I used it, I recognized the sound.

There is one little screw which, once it falls out, defies reinsertion and cannot be kept in place. I used duct tape, crazy glue and a tie wrap to get another year's service out of it, but ultimately, it just would not function properly. It was clearly a bad purchase after 3 months, and I forced 2 years of occasional use out of it, but ultimately, in the trash. A far far cry from a genuine "Yankee Drill" I had use of for decades. I'm seventy, actively doing work using such tools since my early teens. This was not worth my money.

Fell apart during first use. Had to return. Very sharp knurled area that should have been smoothed during manufacturing
Philistine Frank
Crudely made like it came out of a third world, industrial, prison camp. Bit holder was off center. I returned it.

THIS PRODUCT IS USELESS TO ME.Note the length of the screwdriver does not yankee, the first half the screwdriver is a fixed rod that does not collapse. the with of the screwdriver defeats any added benefit of this length especially because of the way the yankee collapses and the resulting issues with guidence, (for those history buffs im talking about the issue that led to the invension of the philips head) Another thing, if you know how to one hand a yankee properly they moved the action switch on the rachet to far away from your hand making its access impossible. The rachet and yankee systems are very smooth and work very well. The length changing device seems to be made from cheap materials as you can forcibly bypass the mechanism by yanking or just being to ruff with general use.The bit holder is ok, its stiff and a bit counterintuitive to a yankee user in you do not collapse it to change the bit, rather you must hold your yankee bolt or lock the yankee from sliding to pull the slide down to change the bits. I was able to pull several bits out of the bit holder, im not sure if the mechanism was defeated or simply never engaged properly as this part of the device is stiff.Another note; the following influential review is bull sh*t: “Love this device. It adds so much power to the action (it's so long it multiples the manual power you put into it.) It is very long (17") & when I first got it I thought it would get limited use but I use it for just about any screw no matter how small. Why? Because you only have to push and don't end up knocking the screw on the floor with a wrist twisting motion. Wish I had bought one years ago.,”There is no additional force created, the length of the action is constant.I strongly recommend against this item. Buy a normal yankee and get a bit extender, you will find it exponentially more functional & useful.THE ONLY INTEREST IN A DEVICE LIKE THIS WOULD BE TO HAVE THE FULL LENGTH YANKEE: THIS PRODUCT HAVING FAILED TO DO THAT IS DEAD TO ME.If someone wanted to update a yankee in a useful way, as a lineman i have to tie my tools to me, give me a way to tie my yankee to me, and i need the dang thing to actually fit into a screw driver slot on any standard tool pouch/bag.

I bought this "ratcheted screwdriver" at my local "Mom & Pop" hardware store about three or four years ago, and I was about to buy another one because it started to come apart, yet I found a tiny replacement screw for the assembly (which had fallen out), tightened it up, WD-40'd it, and wha'-la! Back in business! So, if you don't mind needing a tool to maintain this very cool tool every now and then, I would certainly recommend it, especially for "off-the-grid" scenarios. The head is magnetized, and it also accepts all hex bits, whether drill bits or screwdriver heads. (Mine did not come with any, so this is one from Amazon, which does, is even better and costs less than I paid.)
David Olson
It worked well for a couple weeks, but then the brass gearing inside failed. the lower ratchet gearing completely split apart, causing the whole thing to fail. I like it, but it's no good for anything but fairly light duty work.

Purchased 2 for my son-in-laws. They loved the product. Will order 1 for me
/Dev/Null
Haven't put it through it paces yet, but does seem to work as described. For those complaining about not being able to get bits out, try this:Compress it and let it fly out full speed. Seemed to work for me.
Andrew Ayers
The action on this driver is really rough. During the first day of use the collar to release the bit slid forward and got stuck. It appears it is only held on by friction. I reassembled the collar and staked it to secure it. If I knew I needed to fix the tool I would have bought something else. Stick to Yankee brand.
Debbie A. Robinson
Did not work when it arrived. The "quick release" drill bit holder doesn't lock the bit in place. Also, it would turn only one direction, not both directions when it first arrived.

Works great. Just like the one I had years ago. And a real good price bits make it better.

Have not used it yet, but looks like a great tool.

Well-made and easy to use; my Dad had one of these and when I moved into a new house I realized how valuable it would be for installing blinds and shelves. I will never loan this out!
A. Product Reviewer
For off grid (think Amazon, meaning the real Amazon, or the African bush) this is a great tool to have on hand for equipment installation purposes. Fits in a travel bag well, drills holes and drives screws pretty fast. It's no power drill, but its a lot lighter, smaller, and less valuable to steal and resell. The reality is that most folks in a foreign country have never seen one of these, and as such don't immediately ascribe a value to it. A battery powered drill is immediately recognizable to those who have never even touched one.Another thing to consider is that the operation of this product makes it pretty easy to learn to use for first timers. For instance, once you are pushing hard enough to drive a screw, it's hard enough that a Philips bit will stay engaged. If you hand a battery powered drill to someone who has only seen it before they will strip out the Philips screw heads of a dozen screws as they start to learn how to use the drill/driver properly. It is a little tricky to learn to use on top of a 4-meter ladder. A battery powered drill is definitely easier. You have to choose your tool wisely.
Paul M Andrus
I like everything about this drill except the chuck is at an angle somehow. Whatever bit I put in angles away from center noticeably. Probably just a defect in this one. I will exchange it because I really want this drill. I like the size, heft, and the number of turn per push.
M. L. Owen
Perfect tool when you need a starter-hole or to drive a couple of screws and you don't feel like using power tools (or you have no electricity.) I love being able to work quietly, sometimes. This tool is well-made and works first time/every time.
Penny V.
This is great for those small jobs you don't want to drag a drill out to do.

Good tool, the cost was more then it should be

This yankee screwdriver works great. It extends just the right length to work fast but not to far to cause you to mess up pushing and pulling. And it is comfortable in the hand.
George Todd
Good tool but slightly longer than expected.

Missing all the bits, had been cut out of the packaging.

Makes short work on driving screws no need to lug a cordless drill around! Thanks!

Good quality and easy to use. I have had something similar to this one all of my life but after having it for 50 years I couldn't get any replacement parts. Eazypower should last me for the rest of my life and I use it frequently.

Works great for what I am using it for. Rebuilding transmissions all the small valve body screws now go much faster with this. A few months in and not a single issue great tool.

Excellent cord. Worked perfectly. Good quality.

Destroyed itself after light use over just a few months on the job. The locked nut on the end of the spring was the wrong size for the thread and had been grinding the threads off every time I used it. Impossible to repair.
JAB
Solid and very functional. It does everything that I bought it for.
Robert Pritchard
It was a gift not sure if he liked it but it looked fine to me arrived on time I am sure he will like it
William J. Price
loosest possible fit/grasp of bits, whether screwdriver or drill. eccentric would be a great understatement . ok for coarse, crude work.
Jack
I just ordered and received this today. It's actually misleading advertisement as it mentions a drill /screw driver. I ordered it to use it for a drill with the bits but can't even do that now since it did not include any drill bits. They shouldn't mention drill when it does not even come with any bits. Now I have to decide whether to returnit or try to check on some drill bits for it.
jerry
This is a poor knockoff of the traditional "Yankee drill"/ It is poorly made, does not work smoothly, the bits do not fit tightly into the holder, and there is no place to store the bits in the handle. I'm sorry I went the less expensive way, it's my own fault!
Wil Chow
Works as you expect. The bits are a little hard to get off, but it's not a problem. Very sturdy.
M Gooding
This exceeded my expectations. I expected to get a 12 inch tool: This was an 18 inch chrome and blue finish that looked professional and for all intents and purposes would be professional. Mechanics, joiners, carpenters would find it useful. Husbands stay away because you would have no excuses for not doing all the fix-up work around the house.
C. Grimsley
I'm already using this thing around the house! Projects, light switches, everything! It's everything I need on the fly, great.
Chuck Wilder
It works quickly and well, as Dad's old "Yankee Drill" always did. Doesn't require power cord and doesn't burn out brushes quickly like Dremel and Ryobi cordless do.
Pat Shea
Works well. Greased it as soon as I got it but action was smooth and I want to keep it that way. Only complaint, and it is real minor, is that the bit is not exactly square in it. Does not affect operation at all.
Daniel D. Hamlin
I use this at work and it has been a wonderful tool for all the different types of screws I have to use.

I've had one of these for about 4 years now. I bought it to keep in a small tool bag in my car for quick repairs (I wanted something that didn't need batteries or power). It's done very well in that regard and I've started using it much more than I imagined. It's a chore to do any drilling, but driving screws is very easy and I like how much control I have over the torque and pressure. It's been especially useful while installing door hardware - it's slim profile fits tight to door knobs and the control means you're not stripping those delicate brass screw heads. But I've also used it to drive and remove coarse drywall screws with no problems.I'm subtracting a star only because of the build quality. While it's never failed to work, you can tell that it could be made better. The action could be smoother and the ratchet switch could have a more positive "click" when you change positions. If somebody would build this exact same thing - same size, same 1/4" quick-lock chuck but do it better and with a nicer (wooden?) handle I would upgrade in a heartbeat.

My power drill bit the dust. I looked and looked for another power drill, but it was very difficult to find a good one on my limited budget. I started looking at manual drills, read the reviews, and decided to try this one out. I will admit I was a bit skeptical since my late power drill was supposed to be "good". I found out that my late power drill had the tendency to melt after being used for long periods of time. Wish I had known that before I had purchased it.This manual drill is easy to use, can be used anywhere or anytime you want, it comes with good instructions, I don't ever have to worry about it melting due to no plastic parts that could melt, and it doesn't require electricity. This is useful for my needs, and I do a lot of little household tasks for upkeep on my personal items. I would recommend this for my own family and friends. If I had to, I'd order it again, but from the looks of it I won't have to.

Just what the doctor ordered. If you loved the old Yankee hand drill, you'll love this one too. Perfect for the kitchen tool drawer when you don't want to run to the garage for the electric drill. Note, there are two sizes, this is the bigger one. I think the smaller version would work just as well and possibly store easily. I'm going to order one for each of my kids.
Dr. Doodle
My dad had one of these tools. I remember it as a young boy, about a thousand years ago. It was a little larger with a wooden handle of course as plastics were new, crude and hardly used in quality items back then. Somewhere ago the way, I lost that pre-electric time saver. So I thought I'd get one of these from Amazon. Its surprisingly well made with one glaring design flaw. That is, no built in storage for the included hexbits. Thus, the 4 stars instead of 5. Still okay for the money and I'd buy it again. A word of caution. Unscrewing the handle cap releases a spring that could "shoot your eye out". So be wary. You won't do it by accident as a screw driver is necessary. Just be careful.

this tool is a must for any one who works with hand tools or dose odd jobs I highley recomend this tool.
Sawdust
SAVE your money. This is poorest quality tool I have bought in a long time. The bits won't stay in the chuck, they wobble all over the place. I will not waste anymore money on it even sending it back. If you want a good push drill buy a true Yanky drill.
Alene Zufelt
This is bigger than I was looking for, but I have been unable to find one of these the size of a screwdriver, so I think this will work. It arrived in a timely manner by the company from which it was purchased.

Purchased one of these screwdrivers through Amazon in April, 2009. Usedit only lightly until yesterday when I was assembling a freestanding TVshelf of 3/4" pine plywood and pine 2X6's for my man cave (garage).Worked great for most of the screws, but towards the end of the job(qty-10 3" #8 deckscrews driven in, removed, and then driven in a secondtime after glue was applied to the wood joints) the ratcheting mechanismjammed, and I had to finish the job with a different screwdriver. From Eazypower's web site, their warranty says in part:"Eazypower products are guaranteed against defects in manufacturing andwill be replaced free of charge. Please return your product with yourproof of purchase to...Power tools Accessories and hand tools areconsumable products and will wear after extended use or if usedincorrectly making any warrantee [SIC] void...."Since I didn't expect that the Eazypower warranty to cover my situation(most of the time with this type of tool warranty, if it worked initiallyand then it broke after some use, one must have used it incorrectly), Idisassembled the tool myself and found that one of the ratcheting pawlshad become dislocated and was also badly bent. I was able to fix thisissue, and the screwdriver works again for light duty work. However, I would not suggest this tool for heavy use such as drivinglong deckscrews, even if pilot holes are drilled first in soft wood (asin my case).Just my humble experience; your mileage may vary.

i got this awhile ago,in lieu of a vintage yankee screwdriver. i have purposely been putting this thing to the test any time i need to drive a screw around the house. it really works great. the mechanism isn't as smooth sounding as an original, but i keep the thing oiled well, and it hasn't let me down. i recommend buying this, as the price can't be beat, and while it's not as elegant as an antique it definitely holds up after repeated use.
D. Krause
My father had the Yankee version of these long before I came along, so I have been exposed to the basic tool idea for years. However, I've been using cordless drills for drilling and driving, but have noticed lately that the batteries don't hold a charge more than a day or so. So I thought for the price this would be a good back up, or even a replacement. It functions quite well to drive phillips multi-purpose screws directly into cedar without drilling holes first.I wish it weren't made in China, but whatcha gonna do?
Beverly Guardino
I had to find a screwdriver that would allow working in one sided and small places...I checked with a few warehouses and they didn't have such a tool...Finally, Amazon referred me to the company that had this tool that turned out to be very handy and accommodating for the job...I recommend this type of tool for jobs like putting up window blinds and the like because the space to work is very narrow..But the Push/Pull screwdriver can get the work done with no fuss at all. P.S. the Push/Pull screwdriver also came with one small drill (probably could be used to start a hole)
Amazon Customer
Works fine as a drill, not as good as a screwdriver. The extra torque that was needed when trying to remove screws made the action a little rough.
Heart of Dixie
For those little jobs when you don't need that big, heavy power drill -- putting up a small shelf, hanging pictures, installing cup hooks, etc.,this works terrific -- quick and easy -- and especially lightweight. Takes all 1/4" hex bits, so I already had a lot of bits and such that will fit this.I bought two of them, one for me and one for my daughter. She is also very satisfied with it.I would definitely recommend this.
Robert Wieneke
On job sites when installing large numbers of telephone/network jacks I would screw the plates into the wall boxes with a cordless drill and a screwdriver hex bit. This works great for that and things like taking off and putting on cover plates on equipment boxes. It will screw 1 1/2" long hex head screws into soft wood and through plywood. and 3/4 and 1" screws into harder wood. It will also drill into hard wood with 1/4" hex base drill bits. No battery to go dead, it always works.
