I have been using these for many years and stock many sizes, I use for furniture/cabinet making because of trim head size and they don't strip easily. Mainly I use for fastening deck boards. Generally, I pre-drill everything to secure best. However, these grip very well and by not drilling and made to " mushroom" the material a little surrounding the screw. Then, I pound (hammer) material back into screw hole to further hide the screw. It amazes me that if screw needs to be backed out after many years to replace or repair board, the torque head did not corrode. Since it installs easy without stripping and slipping, the fastener head remains tight with the fit of driver bit. I blow out (some) dirt that has filled the hole but not all dirt/debris is removed and they still grab to remove. On higher end decks I fill the remaining holes with wood or plastic filler. The holes are so small that when filled the almost disappear. More discrete, easier fastening and less cost than many composite deck screws.

Had to replace a Trex deck under their warranty ( another story) and chose these deck screws. They came with a T10 torx bit. The screws work well, pulling the composit decking material into the hole with their reverse threads on the upper part of the screw. The included torx bit was junk. It stripped out within the first dozen screws. I took one from the next box of screws, and it twisted off soon after. After robbing every bit set I could find, the deck got finished. With better bits the screw heads stripped every so often, and a few broke off in the hole. Over all they worked OK, but I would look for better torx bits before starting next time. They did work well for the ends that need to be drilled at an angle. Their slim profile helped prevent splitting the ends of the Trex.

I bought a case (605) of these to install foam panels imitating stone on top of my wood siding. For these application they were totally overkill, but for installing wood on wood (like for decking), they should be great.The best features:- counter-threaded at the top: this helps push the decking onto the base when you draw in the last portion of the screw.- very small head: the smallest I was able to find for outdoor use. It will leave very little holes.- it doesn't split the wood (in case of cheap pine molding, it did, but not on the siding).Cons:- maybe just the price, but it is totally worth it.They are so great that I ordered a second case to finish the project, and to have some leftovers for different projects at home.
