I have went through two of the Malco Knife shealths after only 2-3 months of daily use. No complaints about the knife. However when you use the sheath on a belt, the back fabric of it starts to rip. Next thing you know, there is a knife hanging upside down in your sheath, god forbit its not strapped, that knife is going into your foot or your buddy close to your ladder. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND.
im an hvac tech so i use my knife several times daily. these knifes are amazing iv had a few of them now and they get abused daily cutting duct on concrete and being dropped off ladders onto the concrete. no rolling and it still has its tip some how. I am impressed. only thing is the metal end cap will pop out and disappear on you when i get a new one ill super glue it into the handle.
I kind of wondered if I would need this vs a typical utility knife or a hunting knife I have had for decades. After using it I am glad I had it - was cutting through a material that was 3 inches thick and this knife made clean cuts with minimal effort. The utility knife would have been too short and the hunting knife would have made a mess of things.
Great quality construction, comfortable handle, both blades are super sharp! The ball bearing in the handle is odd, but weirdly comfortable when handling, who knew?! I use this to cut duct liner, flex duct, and have used it to cut weather insulation (duct wrap) as well. Works great and stays sharp. The belt loop on the sheath does fit through a 3” tool belt so that’s a huge plus!Overall great product! I was hesitant at first to get this knife, because why do I need it? I have plenty other knives that work just fine. Get this knife! I wish I would’ve gotten it sooner!
I was surprised at how easily this knife cuts through the outer foil, the insulation, and the inner conduit. I watched some videos of people using a box cutter to hack through the duct. Save yourself some aggravation and use a duct knife - it's like slicing an orange with a sharp knife.
Recently started my career as an hpac apprentice and this night is a definite must have its the exact knife that all my license mechanics have and they highly recommended it and it works great
I guess overall I have to this tool 5 stars. Just whatever u do, don't purchase this knife for the purpose of cutting fiberglass insulation batts lol.I'm an insulation installer, just finished my 3rd week at a new job, driving and installing fiberglass insulation. Wanted to start building up my own tools so this was the 1st thing I bought. Looks cool, comes very sharp, but it's not made for cutting insulation, as the blade is too short. My fingers, or the rubberized grip, kept getting caught up in the insulation and pretty much shredding it. So I have an actual insulation knife arriving tomorrow, and giving this knife to my girlfriend to keep in her car for added protection, after I clean it up of course.Would I recommend this product? Yes! Would I recommend it for insulation? A solid NO! Lol. Hope this review was informative and helpful.
The handle has a ball-bearing embedded in it, probably as a way to secure it into a different style of sheath. Great knife, just wish it was provided with a sheath designed to snap around that ball-bearing.
Great knife for a good price. Cuts through flex duct with ease and easy to sharpen. Most guys I work with use klein which is heavier and does not hold an edge as well. However Malco could take a lesson from Klenk or even Milwaukee and provide a better sheath. Mine is basically nothing but duct tape at this point.
Been using this nice for a long time, got dull after a while, then the tip broke off when I was using it to pry something apart, probably should have used my flathead
The sheath is tough and durable. I'm not worried about my knife stabbing through. Blade holds a sharp edge and takes to a sharpening stone real well. The velcro fastener is cheap though.
I originally thought this knife would be overkill. Had gotten used to the small green handled duct knifes of the past, but this is a nice knife. Having one side serrated makes quick work when working on FG duct or cutting flex duct.
