Experience "double the holding power" with additional barbs on 2-1/2 inch staples for 2-inch foamboard applications.
Uninterrupted Stapling:
The discreet micro welds on the 25-piece staple loading strips ensure they separate cleanly within the stapler mechanism, while an added staple weight guarantees a smooth, steady feed for uninterrupted stapling. The job would have gone a little easier if the staple delivery mechanism worked correctly. I used over 4300 2 1/2" Malco staples @ $43 /box on my project and had to order an extra box to cover staple waste. Would jam every 30-40 staples. Keep a wire cutter or needle nose pliers in your pocket to clear the stapler.
When it is working correctly it is awesome. It takes very little effort to install a bunch of staples quite quickly. It did have a tendency to jam, and the jam takes a minute to get cleared and the staples reloaded. It helped to be very deliberate about attaching each staple and not start to attach a staple and then change your mind about where you want it. It is worth getting this is you have a large number of staples to install.
This is a great idea to be able to staple tubing down to blue board. When it works, it does a good job. However about every 4th plastic staple gets jammed up in the gun and is a pain to get out. Plan on ordering an additional 25% stick of staples.
We started a Garage project that will have in floor heat, so to make the process go as smooth as possible, I purchaased this stapler to secure the tubing to the foam board. i have had exceptional luck with the stapler, it works very well, and the operation is totally stand up, no bending over. We used three people to lay the tubing, one to pull the tubing from the roll, one to lay the tubing on the floor in the pattern we laid out, and one followed up with the stapler. Just keep the stapler full of staples and push cleanly thru and you will have no troubles....I did purchase the weight that other suggested, and it makes a Hugh difference, as the staples are very light and the weight helps keep the stack in position.
I put down several thousand feet of pex tubing by myself with this tool. It works great with a couple of caveats.1) Get some sort of weight (I used a cast pipe collar) to sit on top of the 'staples" and push them down for consistent feeding. It'll save you tons of hassle and keep the staples from jamming (most of the time).2) Use decent quality staples. There seems to be a huge difference in quality of staples. The name brand more expensive ones fed perfectly for the most part, while the cheaper ones would jamb repeatedly. You will experience jambs, so just know that and deal with it. Overall it's a GREAT tool and really makes putting down PEX easy. Much easier if you have two people, but doable with one.
if you plan on putting pex tubing in a concrete pad first use 2" of insulation and buy this tool to install 2 1/2 inch staples. This tool is a incredible. It works flawlessly, no bending over, no on your knees stapling pex to the insulation. You will not regret this purchase. I installed 1600 ft of pex by myself using this stapler and a homemade coil cart which held the pex while I unrolled 300' rolls.
Worked Flawlessly once I held it properly. If you grab it and start stapling without looking at the directions the tool naturally rotates to a position with the magazine pointed towards you. In this position it will jamb every time. When rotated 180 degrees and having the magazine pointed away from your body the tool never jambs. Also the staples are double barbed and hold better than the Reddi-Strip Brand staples.
As a former reviewer wrote, it jams very easily, and a pain to clear the jammed staple out. You end up putting your foot on the staples to keep them in alignment so they don't jam. We were using 1.5" staples, maybe the longer ones would work better. It seems to be a quality issue with the staples and how they are collated. If they fit tighter to the slide it would work better. Be prepared to swear a lot!
