Tried the Klein Tools version and china clones and none seemed to come close. The Malco version provided fast clean cuts with out heating the work piece up. I was expecting the same performance as the other tools since the all look the same but very different performance!I put a dab of cutting oil on the bit to prolong its life just be sure to clean it off the work piece!

Malco HC1 2 in. to 12 in. Sheet Metal Hole Cutter Accessory for 1/4 in.

I needed something to cut lots of holes for recessed LED lighting in a 26 ga. metal ceiling. Easy, fast, accurate. Best way I have found.Look closely at the cutter and the guides you’ll see how to hold it so you don’t slip off. Support the cutout from below with a block of wood as you cut. Easy.

Malco HC1 2 in. to 12 in. Sheet Metal Hole Cutter Accessory for 1/4 in.

Tried to cut a whole in 28 gauge galvanized steel to add a take off in run of the mill ductwork. The bit just doesn't cut. After an hour of trying corded and cordless drills, various speeds, and stopping every 2 minutes to clean the bit out from metal buildup, I had gone 1/4 way around a 10 inch whole. Tapping a utility knife with a hammer was, faster, cleaner, cheaper and more accurate. Show me a video of this product cutting through a 2 inch arc in less than 15 minutes.

So I work in a lot of refrigerator/coolers where I have to penetrate through IMP panels. I’ve used a lot of things to penetrate through that metal but this tool seems to be the best I’ve ever used. Definitely worth the money because it cuts of my time and labor way down. Buy some extra bits and the center finder piece that screws on, just in case.

I’ve used this tool many times before. My original was stolen from me so I purchased this one. The bit broke on the second use of this tool. Yes I understand the tool needs to be used a certain way to prevent this from happening. I understand the tool needs to be used on an angle to avoid snapping the bit. The bit still broke even when being used properly. The bits this tool came with 10 years ago were much sturdier than this junk now. It’s still a great tool but purchase new bits to keep on hand for when the original one breaks.

I bought one when I had to finish my basement and needed added 6" takeoffs from heating supply and return lines. I first saw one being used on This Old House, but until then, I'd never heard of it. Because I was cutting holes in already-installed heating ducts, I also bought a right angle drill, plus some spare bits.Because duct takeoffs need a fairly precise hole, I set it up, then made a trial cut in a piece od cardboard, and adjusted as necessary. I used the cutting bit to drill the center hole, then used the tool's handle to rotate it through a circle. It probably took one hole to get the knack of using it. Even though I was working on the top of heating ducts that were below floor joists on 16" centers, it was straightforward to use. Since then, I've loaned it to friends, and they have used it to finish their own basements. I'm still on the original bit.

There is a YouTube video that shows you how to use it properly once you do a couple of holes you will get the hang of it in use it all the time. Recommend buying extra Cutter bits even though they last a long time. Recommend a fast small drill and make sure that you have it tilted slightly while you are cutting. I work in the HVAC industry and this thing makes your jobs look very professional. Highly recommend.

Customer photo review of Malco HC1 2 in. to 12 in. Sheet Metal Hole Cutter Accessory for 1/4 in.

I am building an all-aluminum experimental aircraft and had to cut a number of round holes (ranging from 4-5 inches in diameter) in 0.025" thick aluminum sheet. This tool worked like a charm. For best results (i.e. the cleanest hole) make sure that the metal sheet is supported. Suggest stopping just short of the point where the tool fully cuts out the hole and then finish by hand. The holes that this tool made are perfect. Highly recommend!

This thing works great infact I'm going to order the big one next... I've been cutting holes the wrong way for almost 20 years apparently. This tool saves tons of time and effort, now it's pretty cumbersome on a battery drill and eats batteries, so I run it on an air drill and it is flawless... Also tip to all you guys who wonder if having to have air is inconvenient the answer is no because now I can also use an air shear to cut all my duct, pipe and takeoffs so life is easy.

This product is rugged and does its job well. You really feel the heft when you use it. Only thing I suggest is just make sure that you tighten the nut down well before making your cuts with the device. The first time I used it, I just hand tightened the nut and it came loose. That's my fault, not necessarily the design of the product. It takes a 3/4" wrench to tighten the nut, although a small bar to turn it would also work. I would suggest they include a bar or small cheap wrench to tighten it with as much as it costs. There's probably even enough room to store such a tool in the handle. The paint will get a little scuffed up where the nut tightens. But that should be expected. But overall it is sturdy and works well.

Malco HC1 2 in. to 12 in. Sheet Metal Hole Cutter Accessory for 1/4 in.

Used to cut holes in duct main trunk for spin collars. Quick. Efficient. If you’ve never used one, be careful how you hold it for the last 2” or so of your cut to avoid a bad ending. Delivered to me quicker than estimate. Slightly more money on Amazon than waiting a couple weeks to buy locally but I needed it for an active job. If you have more than 6 circles to cut out of duct, you will not regret this purchase, the cost will feel validated almost immediately. Comes in plastic, no storage case included. Your tin banging toolbox needs one of these.

Malco HC1 2 in. to 12 in. Sheet Metal Hole Cutter Accessory for 1/4 in.

Yea this is barely good enough for thin ducting material. You get a 3/16" 3 flute HSS drill/end mill. Cuts thin ducting sheet metal ok. Its harder than the video makes it seem. I tried it in 0.080" aluminum sheet, its definitely not happening. I'm trying to modify the tool to use a carbide end mill for cutting thicker sheets or at least cut thin sheets faster. We'll see. The idea of this tool seems to make a lot of sense. But using it is less convenient than you'd hope.
