The cut is 5/8” Not 1/2”. It works great for 5/8” and 3/4” j-channel. Saves a lot of time and adds consistency. It should be noted that this product is not miss labeled from the seller. The manufactures label says 1/2” but the actual size is 5/8”.
What I liked about this tool it works like it says. What I found out is that its works excellant on fresh product if you use it on old brittle siding you will not get the bent over tab because of old siding being to brittle great tool
Product was exactly as described. I have used Malco tools before and they are very well made. This is a good tool and a must to have for anyone installing vinyl siding as it is used to notch the 'J' channel.
Couldn’t use it. Tried numerous times but it would always clip it completely out no matter how careful I was. Maybe with some use it will dull and be useable. I didn’t have the time or extra J Channel to find out.
Seems well made, but it has a very hard time cutting tabs. You have a 50/50 shot when trying to cut tabs of getting a tab or notch. I tried it on expensive lineals only to have a bunch of scrap pieces now.Notches are cut cleanly. Tabs, not so much.Almost a good tool.Just finished return process with Amazon.
Works fine for cutting tab out from inside. Tab always breaks off not allowing to be bent over though. Not necessarily the tool, could be cheap j channel I'm using.
I'm not sure if just this tool was defective or the design was bad. After only about 6 uses the end of one of the handle grips (about 1" long) broke and thus shortened the leverage needed to use the tool. We had just started a full house siding job so taped the handle with electrical tape and continued to use the tool. It just seems that a tool costing almost $50.00 should have a better handle grip. It made the operation of the tool awkward and hard to use. I would not buy from this distributor again.
Maybe I just haven't gotten the hang of it, but more than half the time I'm trying to cut a tab, it cuts all the way through to remove the whole profile. Good, clean cuts and much quicker and precise than hand cutting the J channel tabs.
