Spline ratcheting combination wrenches have an open end and a spline box end that can be used on 4-pt., 6-pt., 12-pt., or spline fasteners. The box end can apply more torque than a 12-pt. design without stripping the fastener head. Combination wrenches have the same SAE (inch) size on each end for use on one specific size fastener. A gear mechanism on the box end allows the wrench to rotate freely in one direction without removing the wrench head from the fastener and repositioning the tool.
