For starters I've yet to install these so bear that in mind when reading my review. I'm a little tweaked that there are no recommendations posted here on the size of the anchor nor the screws needed to hold this to the wood. I've purchased some 5/8" DeWalt/Powers Wedge Anchors (3" length) and I think they're going to be plenty strong enough. I'm 99.9% sure that the weaker point of the two connections will be the screws going into the wood. The 3" wedge anchor ain't going to fail I can pretty much guarantee you that. Now for the wood attachment I'm either going to go with 4 of the 2" screws to hold my redwood 4x4 post in place or else possibly do a through bolt. I wish Simpson Strong-Tie had seen fit to post recommendations on this. I inadvertantly ordered 3-1/2" Simpson Strong Tie Structural Wood Screws (Outdoor Accents Essentials product line) before realizing DUH... 3 - 1/2" screws will be way too long for a 4x4. In this case the two screws are coming in from opposite sides so they would just overlap/collide in the center so clearly 2" was what I should have ordered. I feel stupid for the error but still have to ask why recommended hardware isn't just already highlighted on this product. Would have kept me from my knucklehead mistake... but I'll return them and get the right ones. No big deal.. I just wish again they would give some advice on going with screws vs just drilling a hole all the way through the 4x4 and using bolts with nylocks or similar. The screws are going to better looking I guess but just hope I don't run into issues with splitting the soft redwood. I'll post an update later once I get everything in place. Cheers! PS: I gave the bracket a 5 rating because it is a well built attractive product that's definitely going to solve my problem. My mistake.. 3-1/2” screws are correct because holes in bracket are offset slightly from one side to the other so that the screws don’t interfere with each other! Again, my duh! Wish they made this a little more clear.. would have saved me a lot of head-scratching time!! Lol!! See attached photo. Btw, this photo shows the “Hex Head Washer” product STN22-R24 which I think look great…
