If you need these nails, you know it, and these do the job. I was installing cedar siding so stainless steel was a must, so I knew I would have a few limitations due to the nature of the material. Had very little issue with them bending, in a couple cases I predrilled to be safe. Overall, good value and did the job.
bought to replace the siding nails that were coming out on my house. The existing nails were threaded aluminum, a good idea but, too short at 1 3/4 inch. I couldn't find longer aluminum ones so I ordered these. These are smaller in diameter .92 vs .100 and the head is smaller .165 vs .190. SO I could not put these back in the same holes which is what I hoped to do. I do not know which size is correct. The building supply store told me the Aluminum ones I had were 8 d. So I ordered these. But the original are fatter than these. Also the narrower head means it doesn't pull down the clapboard, it sinks below when trying to put it into the old hole. For driving a fresh hole they are ok but a wider head would hold the clapboard down better I would think
I had to replace some wood siding on our home. Unfortunately the profile is no longer available and I had to have it custom milled. The original construction used a similar nail and they weren't available at our home center. Based on other comments, I was careful while driving them, but didn't bend a single one. I've been very pleased with these and would absolutely use them again.
Good product. Yes they are thin, but that keeps the wood from cracking. Your hammer blows have to be dead on or it will bend, and if it does, you'll not be able to straighten it. Don't even try, just pull it out and replace it. You'll notice how well they "stick". Yes, they are delicate, yes they work great. And they are easy to counter sink and fill. Much better than galvo twist nails.
Using for Pine Siding 1 x 12 about 25% would bend up before going through the boards. Used Grip Rite 8D nails 1000% better. I would not recommend the Simpson nails go with the Grip Rite !
Couldn't find stainless steel nails at the not so nearby Lowes and Homedepot for our coastal 2nd home. Next I'll be looking for windows, siding, bricks and mortar.
It's almost impossible to find stainless steel nail from any hardware store locally. These are exactly as described in the listing. Would definitely recommend if the is the length and gauge you're looking for. I needed these to install some replacement siding.
I ordered 14 gauge stainless steel nails per the Antonline ad in Amazon's on-line catalog. I received nails that were between 12 gauge and 13 gauge, too large for the application I had intended. I e-mailed Antonline and asked for a refund. They replied that they depended on the manufacturer's (Simpson) information to write the ad, and thus had no responsibility to the customer. In the future I will depend on Amazon for book purchases only.
I have Redwood board and batten siding that I'm "restoring" and these work great. These are replacing what appears to be galvanized nails. The house was built in the 50's when a 1" thick board really meant 1".
