I had a laundry valve secured by slotted head screws. The slotted drivers I had weren't big enough and I could not break the screws loose. This fit on the end of a ½" breaker bar and would have been perfect out of the box had the head not been a bit too thick. I ground it down a little and it worked perfectly. I had to use a grinding wheel to do this as it was too hard to file.
Stuck drain plug in my Mercruiser lower unit. The slotted head was disintegrating from multiple unsuccessful attempts to remove the plug. This tool, with a small amount of sanding to trim the width of the blade combined with my impact nut driver made short work of the reluctant drain plug. Even having to make a minor adjustment, it certainly deserves five stars. It'll find other uses around this boat, that is certain. A quality tool, it should last for years.
Exact size it's supposed to be not "off" by a small margin.High quality impact rated flat head driver socket.I have used it several times with my 1/2 air impact to remove oil plugs that either lock tite in place or rusted in placeWish I could find a set of more with one slightly thicker one thinner , one wider, etc...For comparison I bought a set of new craftsman screw driver socket that were not one piece like this they were chrome base and a black steel driver bit stock inside the chrome base. The first time I used the one that was 1 size smaller than this it snapped the black driver bit part of it in half
As others have said the blade is thicker than advertised. I use it on fill/drain plugs on various size outboards. I just took a grinder to it and thinned it out a little.
I ordered the Stanley Proto 1/2 inch drive screwdriver bit because I needed to remove the slotted screws from starters. I tried everything else I could find, but to no avail. I used this tool and an impact driver and the screws canes out with ease with absolutely no damage to the screwdriver bit. This tool is solid and I would recommend this tool if you are dismantling a starter.
Perfect tool for my OMC Cobra out drive fill plug/dipstick. I had been struggling with this slotted screw every season with a modified short screw driver. Now it's so simple and easy.
The tip was thicker than stated and would not fit the screw slots on my Johnson outboard. I was in a hurry so spent over an hour with a hand drill with a grinding wheel to get the tip down to the correct size.....took awhile because the steel is very hard. It then worked great. I have to give it a low rating because it took a lot of my time to correct the fault.
The tip is not 5/64 (0.078125) inch thick as described but a much thicker 0.091 inch and will not fit most flat 1/2 inch screw slots. If amazon corrects the description, then ignore this review. The product appears to be solid but could not test it due to its unexpected thickness.
This "oddball" socket isn't something you typically will see at a big box home improvement warehouse so I'm glad Amazon had it up for a reasonable price. Something I might use three times in my life but boy, is it handy when you need it. Last used to remove a sticky folding stock off an old rifle, held on with one huge slotted screw that was probably red loc-tite'd in. Stuck this socket on a breaker bar and turned it out easily. This might also serve as a substitute for a drag link socket in a pinch, but I haven't put that to the test yet.
